Habitat For Humanity Of Washington State
Volunteers:
The Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Insurance Program offers a wide selection of online safety training courses to help Habitat for Humanity affiliates and their construction staff learn and understand safe working practices while on the job site. The courses target specific topics related to construction safety. All courses offered to Habitat affiliates are available to volunteers. When you land on the safety courses catalog page (see course instructions) simply click any of the courses listed. Habitat recommends volunteers take the Volunteer course first.

All:
Habitat for Humanity of Washington State is excited to present the Habitat Sustainable Builder (HSB) Seminars.  Affiliates may request either half-day or full-day HSB Seminars to be delivered from November 2010 through January 2011.

As part of our Public Participation Grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology, the HSB Seminars are free to affiliates though we will have to charge a modest amount to cover lunch.  Affiliates may also invite other members of the housing community.

The HSB Seminars consist of two HSB modules.  The eight HSB modules are each one hour long and designed to provide practical sustainable building information to support affiliates wherever you are on the sustainable building continuum and whatever your role in the affiliate.  Click here for brief descriptions of each of these interactive modules.

Affiliates may select two of the eight HSB modules and may also include practical field applications appropriate to your affiliate in the HSB Seminar event.  The HSB Seminar can be a half-day or full day event.  It’s up to you.

HSB Construction topics include both the basics and technical applications. HSB Non-construction modules look at the practical applications of each HSB Construction topic as it relates to homeowners and individual affiliate staff and volunteer roles.  If our homeowners ‘need to know,’ we need to know!

Interested in more? Ask for an extended presentation day or additional visits to cover what you need and we’ll work with you to make that happen.

Interested in learning to be an HSB Seminar presenter or have ideas about how we can extend the reach of the HSB Seminars?  Let us know that as well.

Contact Sheila Marie, HFHWA Sustainable Building Learning Specialist, to learn more and to schedule your HSB Seminar: [ email ] or 253-759-2780.

Sheila is a Sustainable Building Learning Specialist working with Habitat for Humanity of Washington State until March 2011 as a part of a Public Participation Grant with Washington State University’s Department of Ecology. Her goal is to provide Washington State Habitat affiliates with practical and applicable sustainable building resources through HSB seminars. The seminars are designed to inform and help Washington State affiliates prepare to meet HFHI/HFH-WA goals of NW Energy Star and sustainable building certification for all Habitat houses built from June 30, 2011 forward.
